This historic area is the former vacation and resort destination for many of the Midwest's wealthy and
notorious from the 1870s through the 1930s.  The city abuts
Lac La Belle and Fowler Lake and on any
given evening you will see residents enjoying their daily ritual of an evening stroll along the sidewalks that
wind along the shorelines of the lakes. There are many older, Victorian style homes in Oconomowoc.  The
city has seen tremendous growth of residential development and there are newer construction homes in all
price ranges.  The lake property on Lac La Belle and Fowler Lake varies from the old, stately lake homes to
newer construction. Oconomowoc still has a quaint downtown area, but like many municipalities, large
retail and commercial growth is on the outskirts of the community.  The Pabst Farms on the corner of I-94
and Hwy. 67, is a planned community of residential, retail and commercial development.  There are plans
for a 1-million-square-foot open-air regional shopping center here.

The City of Oconomowoc is in the Oconomowoc School District. The School District recently added 2 new
schools and an auditorium.  Most of the Town of Oconomowoc is in the Oconomowoc School District.  A
small section on the Eastern boundary is in the Arrowhead School District.
